My Positions

Improving the Economy and Creating Jobs

Our economy relies on jobs.  Without people at work, our community and our state suffer.  To ensure we are able to get our economy back on track and we are able to get people back to work, we must ensure that we create a pro-jobs economic environment by reducing regulations on businesses, simplifying our tax code, and cutting taxes on our families and businesses to provide much needed relief during these tough economic times.

Tax Reform

Quite simply, our tax code is too complex and our taxes are too high.  We know that government spending is not the answer to our economic challenges.  Instead, real tax reform will create real economic stimulus.  We currently have a tax system that discourages growth, which in turn kills jobs and hurts our families and businesses.  We need to look at ways to simplify our tax code and reduce taxes on our families and businesses wherever possible.

Eliminating Waste in Government

Government spending is out-of-control.  For too long, we have allowed politicians to use our tax dollars to win the favor of voters through special projects and programs.  We need to change the way we do business.  We must look at each dollar spent in our state budget and assess whether its’ purpose is valid, and if it is, determine whether the funding is achieving that desired purpose.

Providing Quality Schools

Our schools are the foundation of our state’s future.  We must ensure that local schools, teachers, parents and students are being given the resources they need to be successful.  We must also look at ways to ensure that our graduates are leaving our schools with the tools necessary to be successful in the work place.

Health Care Reform

Health care costs are too high for those with AND without health insurance.  Those that are fortunate enough to have health insurance have seen a growing portion of their pay checks spent to pay for the rising costs of health care while those without insurance face the fear of sickness or injury, which could cripple their finances.  We must look at ways to increase accessibility to health insurance by lowering the costs of health care.  There is too much waste and abuse in our health care system and we must look at ways to modernize our system to provide broader access to affordable, quality care.
